Many facilities that house elderly or physically impaired people either have their own non-emergency medical transportation vehicles, or have a company that provides this service on a regular basis. For an otherwise healthy person in a wheelchair, this provides a level of mobility that is impossible with a regular car. This service is also very helpful to anyone who is unsteady or unable to transport themselves, but still has a need to travel outside of their home or facility.
Assisted living facilities and nursing homes are two facilities that use this type of service very regularly, as many of their residents have difficulty ambulating, but often have doctor’s appointments, medical testing, or even outpatient procedures. Without the benefit of this service, the health of our overall population would suffer.
